Professor Ian Franklin
The questions below were submitted by Factor 8 ahead of Professor Ian Franklin giving evidence to the Infected Blood Inquiry in October 2020.
Was it standard practice to provide Piriton before Cryo?
Why would this be done?
This page from my Dad’s medical records refers to surgery being carried out in 1975 using Cryo as “usual”. (Showing surgery with cryo was not only possible, but usual) https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Omy09OMkSrfKyCWNefq9IB5D9ccPLHDe/view?usp=sharing
Why and when did cryo for surgery cease to be usual? (This also relates to para 48 of Ian Franklin's statement, where he cannot recall an example)
Ian Franklin WS page 18 "The other aspect of risk in plasma products is pool size" - What discussions does he remember taking place in the early 1980s about pool sizes and risk?
Ian Franklin WS page 20 - "the supply was disrupted when the non-heat treated products were withdrawn early in 1985"...
What recollection do you have of how any withdrawal or recall of products took place and where did that instruction come from?
Can he recall any specific, significant problems as a result of reducing treatment at this time?
Was more cryo used during this time?
Ian Franklin WS page 27 - "HIV became a recognised additional risk factor for severe liver disease” - Could you explain further about the relationship in your experience between HIV / AIDS and liver disease?
What impact does liver disease have upon the body's natural production of Factor VIII?
Ian Franklin WS PARA 37 - “word of mouth” - Do you recall any particular word of mouth examples?
Ian Franklin WS Start of page 78 - What is your understanding of Hepatitis C reactivation in patients who have received Leukaemia treatment?
Re delay of testing/resources - Were GPs written to in order to follow up non attenders?
