Peter Wetherell

Para 16 - Can he clarify what he means by “I do not recall that the Haemophilia Society appointed members of the Medical Advisory panel” Surely this must have been the case, that the HS appointed people to its own panel? Who else did it?

  • In Para 10 he says he didn’t join subcommittee’s as he felt he didn’t have the proper skills / qualifications. Does he feel the people listed in Para 19 did?

  • Para 20 - Does he recall members being aware in 1979 that NON A NON B could lead to serious liver damage?

  • Para 21 - Could he expand more upon what he recalls Bloom said in the speech he refers to? What does he mean by Bloom “played down the idea of risk”?

  • Para 22 - he refers to “fear, stigma and revulsion that haemophiliacs were starting to experience” - does he have any specific recollections?

  • Para 34 - he says “it would also have meant many people having to abandon their treatment programmes” - this is a similar black and white choice as forward by some haemophiliac treaters. Could there not have been a change to treatment as opposed to abandonment? Was this contemplated at that time?

  • Para 44 - Could the society have approached the BMA for suggestions of experts / sources who could carry out such a function?

    • Could the society have approached The Royal College of Pathologists for suggestions of experts / sources who could carry out such a function?

    • Could the society have approached The Royal College of Physicians for suggestions of experts / sources who could carry out such a function?
